Superior Essays
I was a sophomore, when I started track and field. I did not know much about it except you had to run. My friend Diamond Peoples was telling me about how the team need more girls. She told me it is fun and you don’t have to worry about being perfect. After she got done telling me what all I can do and how she love track and field. I told her I would like to try out and I will be at practice tomorrow.
The next day, during school I was excited that I can try out for track and field. But I was nervous at the sametime. When school ended I was heading towards the field house, that’s where we change our clothes. I was so scared I started to get butterflies in my stomach. Practice started at 3:15, we all warmed up and stretched as a team. After we

The first thing he called was disc and shot put, get ready to warm up. All the throwers went to the field and warm up and they got ready to throw. The person who was in charge called all the throwers name in order. I was in the whole that means I was up next after the first thrower. When I enter the hole I practice my stands. 1 2 3…..then I release, the person who was taking our score said mark. When I got down throwing for shot put and discs, it was time for me to run the 800 dash. The race official calls us to the start line, and about 12 runners line up on the backstretch. The gun goes up. “Runners to your marks. SET…. BANG!” We’re off. The pace is quick, but no one runs away with it. I manage to settle behind three lead runners on the inside lane. A teammate runs right on my shoulder and we are able to run fast but smooth through the first lap. My teammate fades as I hang on. I approach the 800 meter mark. The timer shouts 2:08, It’s over. I wobble off the track. To my disbelief, I held onto second place. I sat down on the grass. My legs feel like rubber. The grass is making me itchy. I smile. I ran as fast as I could. I left it all out on the track. A few minutes after this race was over, my coach found me lying in the grass. He was with my teammate who shouted, “That was

Our daily wiffle ball game was about to start. There was a wiffle ball game every evening behind the apartment complex I lived in. The game was played in a luscious green grass field with a monstrous hill in left field. The usual squad was myself, Ricky, Justin, Michael, Jonathon, Latrell, and occasionally Greg but his parents usually make him stay inside and play monopoly or some other dumb board game. Our teams were always different from the last game.…

“Runners on your mark…Set...Poww!” Those were the last sounds I heard during what could have been my last race of my sophomore year in collegiate Track and Field. It was a frisky, yet cool Saturday in April and after a strong performance in the previous indoor and outdoor season (4x100m and 400m), I was determined to continue and uphold my strong form on this day. There is a saying that things do not always turn out the way we hope, but I believe, there is always a positive lesson to be learned from every life event. I love sports.…
