Greetings! I’m Neon but my close friends call me Ne. Before I get into too much detail, there are some things you should know about me. First of all, I weigh 20 amu; light, I know! I have been around for a while, for about 4.5 billion years, but no one knew of my existence because people don’t notice me; it’s so sad! Now into my life story. When a nebula helped form planet Earth, my friends and I were born. However, it took a long time, smart people and a lot of work to get us all free from the aftermath of the event. In 1898, two British chemists at University College London in London, England, Sir William Ramsay and Morris William Travers, did a lot of work to find me in the rubble. I was one of the last to be extracted. The process was long and apparently included some liquefying and heating; I was out for most of it! Eventually, I was able to roam free in the world! They decided to name me; I am told I was named after the Greek word neos, meaning new. Now, I am one of the many noble rulers of my people. We are currently in very stable …show more content…
On December 11th, 1910, I found my way into some electrified tubes. They are more commonly referred to as neon lights (after me, of course!). Electrical currents are passed through me and the tubes to make me shine. I shine red. Some of my other friends are used to change colours; Argon, for example, creates a bluish-purple colour. I didn’t want to stop there with my public services, so I continued to venture into other products. Some items I found are helium-neon lasers, high-tech plasma TVs, radiation detectors, airport runway lights, Geiger counters diving equipment, neon-tube electronic switches and more. They all needed my help. I also put my tolerance for the cold to good use. I am cryogenic refrigerant because I have the largest refrigerating capacity of my kind. It truly is a great

2014 and 2015 were my fleeting lifespan's worst years. No major, life-or-death events happened. I just have felt so very alone even amongst friends and family. I can't bring myself to talk to anyone about what I'm feeling, this whole bundle of negative emotions constantly accumulating inside me. Talking to people about what I feel just makes me feel selfish, knowing how others are suffering more so.…

When I think about the boy who I was growing up, the young adult I am today, and the man I plan to be in the forthcoming years, one aspect of my life stands out to me far more radiantly than anything else: my culture, my skin, my identity as a Bangladeshi-American. There aren't many clubs or organization for Bangladeshi Americans such as myself. Make no mistake, there are certainly events for Bangladeshis living in the United states, many that I have attended due to various entreaties from my parents. These are event where the only language spoken is one that I barely speak (Bengali), the only music conversed about is that which I don't listen to or understand, and the only events discussed happen in another country that I have spent only a…

I notice in my racial Identity development and of my peers that we don’t have to rely on not only people of color, but any person to validate our opinion about race. I notice that we Immerge ourselves when we were learning, and gaining experience about race, and we Emerged ourselves when we learned about race and how it was shaping ours perspective regarding race, which helped us construct a new identity. We thought that by accepting people of other races, we were changing our perspective about race, that the unity of us all together could change other people’s lives. Our desperate intensions of building a beloved community, to fight racisms together, to eliminate all kind of oppressions, it is just a dream because there still people who are…

When I attended elementary school in Staten Island, my African-American friends would chant, “Janelly, you’re not Black; you’re Dominican!” I was only 10-years-old and was already experiencing a racial identity conflict with which even adults struggle. The dubious remark made me question myself because my skin color was the same as theirs, “why am I not Black? How am I different from my classmates?” It slowly dawned on me what my friends referred to as Black had nothing to do with my skin tone but instead with my ethnicity. My classmates perceived me as a Latina.…

Neon is one of the world’s rare and most expensive elements. I chose Neon because of it's uniqueness. In 1898, William Ramsay and Morris Travers at University College London isolated krypton gas by evaporating liquid argon. They had been expecting to find a lighter gas which would fit a niche above argon in the periodic table of the elements. They then repeated their experiment, that time allowing solid argon to evaporate at a slow pace under reduced pressure and collected the gas which came off first.…
