Growing up in a Hispanic house taught me various experiences. From being born in the United States, to moving to Mexico when I was four years old and living there up to my tenth birthday. It’s very harsh coming back to the country where I was born not knowing how to speak English. I was born in the United States August 15, 2000. Both my parents born in Mexico, not having a completed education and having to come to the United States, the land of freedom and opportunities to find a job and support their families back in Mexico. It was a dream come true for them. My mother was 16 when she crossed the border. She was the second member from her mother side to ever come to the United States. She risked her life in order to find a better life in order to support my grandmother in Mexico, which she was struggling financially and needed help from her two younger children. My mother never had the idea of improving and expanding her education, she had in mind only one thing, Opportunity. Opportunities which is a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something. My …show more content…
From Spanish being my first language and having to learn English at ten years old was very frustrating because, I had to overcome obstacles and embarrassing moments in order to learn from them and not commit the same ones again. As I started to learn the basics I would always have in mind, I need to find someone who can teach me to learn English because I only had a few years to learn before I graduated eighth grade and enter High school. I have been a girl that grew up in Mexico but, I was able to learn fast and get familiar with the American ways. The American way was different. For example way school was established. Like I was more free in Mexico than here. As I more familiar with everything I started to notice life has many rules and we all need them in order to live

I grew up in a Mexican household, so I always had to deal with my family’s special way of doing things. One thing that the women in my family used to do involved curing a baby’s hiccups. When a baby gets hiccups, a member of my family (usually a woman) would get a piece of red string, wet it, roll it in a little ball, and put in in the middle of the baby’s forehead. That would make the hiccups stop. I never knew this was considered “weird” to other people until I was in the second grade…

Although people assume otherwise, I am Latina, and I'm proud to be a part of that community. I obtain my Latin blood from my father, who moved to the United States from Uruguay as a child. My parents divorced each other when I was young; however, when I was with him for either the weekend or the month of July, I embraced all the wonders of my Latin family. Latino culture entails prodigious amounts of cooking, and we always cooked Uruguayan food; it was almost taboo to eat out. From flan to the glorious empanadas, my family always ate homemade meals.…

I am now able to appreciate the traits that come from both of the cultures I live in, whether it be the opportunistic outlook on life that I have developed from living in the United States or the motivation that comes from living in a Mexican household. I have developed goals of success, such as attending a four year university and majoring in political science. My Mexican side has encouraged me to work as hard as I can to end the cycle of poverty that has plagued my family and be the first to go to college and obtain a degree. Since then I have grown to love the fact that I am Mexican-American even more and more. I love that I am bilingual, and I believe that this trait will help me obtain the career in law that I desire.…

I come from a rather large community where Latinos seem to dominate my residence; however, even though there seems to be a vast amount of Latinos such as I, it seems that work is not easy to come by. The opportunities I my community are largely different than those one can see in the movies. California is not as grand as what many outsiders seem to believe. Growing up as a hispanic immigrant I was mostly told “finish high school here and learn how to speak English well and when you go back to your country you could get a decent job.” But throughout my whole school “career” I wanted to show those people that I could do even more than just learn English and graduate from High School. I want to Continue my education and get a job here in the U.S and contribute to the community. I want to go above and beyond what people expect from me and prove to others you can exceed expectation and only you know what are your limits. People always tend to think just because you're a certain race, gender, religion, and ect… you have a certain limit to your capabilities.…

Life as a Hispanic woman can be summed up with two words; a telenovela. In modern telenovelas, the audience gets hit with stereotypical factors such as the modest heroine achieving success, a typical love story, evil stepmothers, long lost siblings and the icing on the cake is drama. I would describe my life as a Latina in close range to those cheesy telenovelas I watched growing up, well maybe except for the evil stepmother. Growing up Hispanic is a point of pride for us and throughout the ups and downs, those experiences made me the woman I am today. Despite the fact that this is my telenovela, it wouldn’t be here to tell it if my parents never found their way to New York City.…
