Personal Narrative: Football Or Basketball

Decent Essays
Millions of people go to games or watch SportsCenter every day. I enjoy a good baseball game, but I’ll watch football or basketball if I get a chance. Baseball is great because of the incredible history. Even reading about the old-time games excites me. Football has overtaken baseball as the national sport. The game is so fast-paced and often very exciting. Basketball at the college level is so amazing. Kansas basketball is thrilling. Without sports, I would simply die.

People coming from a different planet would think every day things we do in life are weird. What we have adapted to and think are normal look very weird to others who haven’t seen people doing things like this. Such as someone who has never shaved before would think that is very odd to shave your beard. Or someone who has never seen a drive threw would think it’s weird to have people have food handed out the window. As we think other cultures are weird we have to look at the fact that our culture is weird to others People that have never seen basketball would thing it is a bunch of people running around with a ball.…

Basketball has been a part of my life as I have played it since I could remember. I was in the school’s team year after year and was even drafted for the team as high school came. However, a bike accident prior to the regional tournament took a toll on my body. The lower pelvic of my right foot was injured and could no longer withstand the stress of playing basketball. All hopes and expectations of playing in the high school team were shattered.…

Like all children all I ever wanted was to be big and do big people things. I engaged in a few family members that I would look up to and try everything they did. I use to pretend to go grocery shopping and being a parent at times. At the age of eight, I had worn the worst pain ever and that was watching my five, year old brother getting hit by a car while trying to cross the street riding a bicycle that had a loose chain. I remember him trying to get up and get to me, but a few adults that had witnessed the accident had told him to lay down.…

That was embarrassing I love the game of basketball, even when I score in the other team’s basket. In my defense, I was only six years old and it was my first time being on a basketball team. Me and my older brother Houston were on the same team, and at the time we were losing by seven or eight points and there was hardly any time left in the game, maybe a second or two. I was always the smallest kid on the court…

THE EIGHT FOOT CIRCLE “Stand up for what you believe in even if that means standing alone”. When I was younger and got my first opportunity to stand up for myself without anyone pushing me to succeed things didn't go as planned. Although I didn't succeeded I took a lesson from it in the end. “Play ball” the umpire called out as we jogged on to the field. Like every game before I headed for third base.…

Last year during fantasy football I had a great team my players rarely got hurt and none of them got suspended. On the other hand almost all of my opponents had to deal with that. My opponents all agreed that I had the best draft overall, and I would still get beat by all of them. First is the draft of a lifetime, I got the second pick and I picked Le'veon Bell. All my life I was always put down for being small. Standing at 4’11 now as a freshman in college I get comments on my height every day. So when my basketball coach at the end of my freshmen year of high school blew her high-pitched whistle stopping practice to say “Why is the shortest person on the team jumping high than all of you!” I felt the biggest swell in my chest. That moment in practice was a significant turning point in my life that proves I am capable of accomplishing anything with hard work and dedication.…
