She took heavy breaths as she rested her head on my lap. My eyes, swollen shut, had tears piling up on the floor looking like a flood. Her back, looking like a stick that a kid didn’t finish breaking, held her on the ground making her shriek in pain if she was to move. The vet slowly pushed the medicine into her vane letting her be relieved from the world. She was hit by a big white ford speeding around a school bus to beat the line of cars being stopped by it. The truck was to focused on getting away they didn’t notice my dog that slipped on of her collar and ran into the road with me chasing after her.

The Truck didn’t stop, I’m guessing because they knew the law was being broken. Accidents that cause deaths and many injuries like speeding

This makes me mad, because to get an innocent child involved in your criminal activities is a shame. I know that the Fourth Amendment protects all United States citizens against unlawful search and seizure of contraband. In this case, I think that during a traffic stop law enforcement had probable cause she had drugs in her possession and they search her. She had a history of possession and selling drugs.…

Times have been rough, but I am sure you are aware of this. I am writing to you in a time of extremely dire circumstances. During a case I was part of not too long ago a discourteous lawyer absolutely engulfed in his work decided to say such words that have lifted a forgotten sprit within me. After speaking to the Attorney General about allowing 'mixed company' to be present in cases about prostitution, I was much too overjoyed about winning that I failed to realize the many injustices that are still prevailing, ruining our fellow sisters. It is because of this reason that when I heard such infantile words come out of that lawyers mouth was I absolutely appalled.…

There had been times when she suddenly remembered something about him, like something he had said or something he had done and when that happened it always brought tears to her eyes. Throughout the Fall 2016 semester, I visited several different courts uptown for my American Criminal Courts class. When I saw this assignment on the syllabus, I was very eager to complete it because I wanted expand my knowledge in the court system and how it works. I had previously observed in a courtroom for my Civics and Economics class in high school, but it was very basic. I went to the courthouse afterhours and completed a mock trial with other peers. Even though it was basic, I still had a lot of fun pretending I was on a jury and seeing the simple set up of a trial.…

I was not used to being clueless. Just as for many teenagers, when I got my license a new world was open to me. This was certainly a world where I had more freedom, and I had to learn how to navigate it, in more ways than one. Learning how to communicate with my parents as an adult was not easy. My new found freedom came with the catch of proving to them that I would be responsible and reliable.…

She wasn’t acting like herself anymore. It was almost as if it was her daily routine to act as if she was in pain, which she was. It was a long, unusual problem that my dog Gizzie was in a different state of mind, so our family knew what we had to do. It was hard to understand at first, how a dog that’s been around my whole life would be gone the next day. Lying in my bed and thinking about all of the memories, like the snow days when you could see her little paws imprinted into the ground.…

The criminal justice system has a lot of power over our lives. Though I have not personally experienced the criminal justice system, I feel that I have experienced the system my entire life. What is ironic is that my indirect experiences with the criminal justice system has led me to want to become a part of it. I used to say, “If I were my dad’s lawyer he would be home right now.” When I was younger, my father and my aunt (his sister) were incarcerated for six years after a fight with someone in their neighborhood.…

I never thought it could happen to me, until it did. What was supposed to be a normal Saturday evening turned into what I can only imagine would be my mother’s biggest nightmare and would cause me more pain than just a few bruises. Everyone describes moments like these as being slowed down, but for me everything seemed to be going at super speed. I don’t really remember rolling, all I can remember is losing control on the loose gravel and the initial impact of my body being slammed against the driver side door and then watching the dust settle. The little things that I can remember seem almost insignificant looking back on it now: how my rear view mirror was tilted up at an odd angle, how I could not get my key out of the ignition, and how I could not open my door all the way.…
