Personal Narrative On Claustrophobia

I woke up one day and everything had changed. Upon waking and by night they were entirely different. I was twenty. An age already brimming to the top with questions, but the only one I could think of was who was she? It was 3:04 PM, when I first saw her, but it wasn’t quite like I could miss her, however, even through the crowds of people pushing against one another, she was staring straight at me, with a half-smirk that only added to the mystery. The other odd thing about her was that no one seemed to touch her; and in New York that was a common problem, claustrophobia was something I felt on the daily. She seemed to be encompassed in her own little world, while the world around her moved like they were energizer bunnies she seemed to …show more content…
Although creepy as it might be, I couldn’t help but watch her. Her eyes were closed, and she was swaying back in forth in time with the music. Her hands where moving as if they weren’t connected to her body. People seemed to bounce off her and even guys that she graced the pleasure of dancing with didn’t seem to be able to even scratch the surface of entering her little world. Even the lights knew to keep their distance only grazing her skin to highlight the way her fingers moved with the music or the bobbing of her head. She never seemed to be where she was as I noticed, she was forever in her …show more content…
I couldn’t think straight. With the mix of alcohol and pure nerves all I could manage was,
“Do we know each other?” She laughed. Not a giggle but a full-hearted laugh. She looked at me again and then stopped laughing.
“Are you serious?” She was glaring at me as if I had just asked her who the president was. She chuckled again and then looked back up at me, as if somehow that would make me respond with a chuckle back and let her know it was all a terrible joke. Nothing. Did I know her? We were in this nightclub with the lights flashing around us and the music physically bouncing, and here we were stopped in the middle of it. She really knew how to make the world feel much smaller than it was.
“Are you telling me right now that you have no idea who I am?” She was shouting at this point and I wasn’t sure if it was because the music was pounding at my eardrums or because she was upset. Either way it was yelling. I’m not a huge fan of yelling. I shook my head, words didn’t seem like the best option at this point.
Her hair was grasped between her hands and she was biting her lip while pacing back in forth. She was even breathtaking in this panicked

Daisy Buchanan is the cousin of the narrator, Nick Carraway, and the wife of Tom Buchanan. She is much like every character in the book and emphasizes the themes presented throughout The Great Gatsby. Despite her beauty, she is perhaps one of the most selfish and fickle characters in the book. One quote that shows Daisy’s selfishness is at the beginning of The Great Gatsby. Nick goes to Daisy’s house for the first time since he came to East Egg.…

I could hear them gossiping in the seat behind me on the bus, about Lyla, a cryptic like woman that lived on my block, about five doors away. She came out of a cab on crutches last night, which wasn’t a big surprise; because it wasn’t the first time she had been spotted like that. She spent much of the time wearing vast, dark glasses. Maybe she wanted an air of mystery, but the real mystery was whether she was hiding a black eye or not. “Well she is definitely putting up with something that she shouldn’t,” hollered the taller girl, with an air of authority.…

“Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” was a story I did not expect to be as fascinated by as I truly was. By combining an authoritarian yet familiar tone with a realistic setting, Joyce Oates short story angles itself into an unexpected horrifying tale, fit for ones with a distinctly strong heart. “Her name was Connie.” Don’t be fooled by this simple setup. This is not a story about a girl and her jealousy for her perfect sister.…

Friday Mornings I rushed my full stomach to my room and I pulled out the bottom of my semi formal clothings and pants drawer. Being the control freak that I am, I also picked out my brother’s outfit. My mother was kind enough to let me select my own outfit to school as a second grader. Enrolled in a small, private, and conservative Christian school, where the moms are very in everyone’s business; not many of my friends were allowed to pick out their “free friday” outfits. Although now, I wish my mother would restrict some of the things I wore.…
