Working as a Porter The sun is awaking form the east as the morning begins. I’m awaken from my slumber by the sound of my alarm clock going off. I grab my uniform from my closet and get dress and I reach for my key of the counter near the front door and head out into the dim light outside and open my sliver Mustang car door and begin the drive to work at Howdy Honda as a porter. As the Morning continues, I arrive at work and head into the main shop and open the heavy door and head to the cashier’s office and get on the computer clock-in and begin my job. I head out the cashier’s door and walk to the service drive where I await for the heard of cars to pull up on the three lane drive. After the customer and advisor get everything figured out, the advisor tags the car with a number that hangs from the rear view mirror and leaves the keys in the ignition. I pull the car forward until it’s between two blue blocks that are painted on the drive. Above these two blue blocks that are about 10 feet apart are two lasers that are hanging from the ceiling. These lasers check the cars alinement by using four hubcaps that attaches to the tire and rim. Once I attach the four hub caps to the tires I get in the car and put the car in neutral and the computer right next to the blue block on the left begins to read the measurements for the four hubcaps. While the computer is reading the hubcaps I grab a plastic cover that goes over the seat and a protective floor mat which protects from spills. About the time I finish placing the floor the computer is finished with its measurements and begins to print them out and I place the measurements on the dash for techs. I begin taking off each hubcap from the tires and place them back on the stands …show more content…
The main shop is my responsibility and I begin by walking to the porter’s tool box which is located near the oil pumps and the carts at the back of the shop. I open the top of the tool box which has rubber gloves and I begin collecting all of the oil carts and bring the oil carts to the oil pump which uses compressed air and creates a suction and empties the carts with a hose that connects to the cart. The techs leave oil filters on top of the oil cart and I have to drain them through the top of the cart and throw them in a bucket that is labeled used oil filters under the oil pump. When the used oil filters are full I take them outside the shop and open a gate and toss them into a barrel that it is label used oil filters and let all the oil come out of the bucket. Once I empty them I close the gate and walk back in the shop and place the bucket back under the oil pump. The shop is coming to a close and I prepare to clear the drive of all the wheel alinement sensors and computers. I push them all into a room and place them nice and neat and close the door and call it a day. Work as a porter consist of a lot of walking, cleaning, and being
