My Atlatl-Personal Narrative

Improved Essays
I knew that if I didn't go on the trip something would go wrong. After training for weeks on how to throw an atlatl, what angle to throw it, and where to hit the animal. I also learned where to hit certain animals, and how hard to throw it, I also learned how to shoot a bow and arrow. Yesterday, had been my last day to practice and I knew I was ready, I packed food, water, my bow, my atlatl, and my will to succeed. When I was little, I had always dreamed of going on one of these trips, going out and throwing that atlatl, hitting an animal right in the head. It had always been my dream. As we set of on our journey, I knew it would be tough. Halfway to our destination, Delicate Arch, we set up camp to rest. In my tent I was staying with my best friend Niko, I met Niko at training and ever since then we have been really good friends. Niko was a taller person with long, black hair. Towards the middle of the night I heard something nuzzling against the tent.
“Do you hear that?” I whispered questioningly towards Niko.
“Yeah, what do you think it was?” Questioned Niko.
“Let’s go check it out.” I insisted.
“Alright.” Niko said
Niko grabbed his bag and grabbed a small dagger, which he brought just in case. He went out first, and I was right on his tail. When we walked out, we couldn't see anything originally, so we walked around the tent to see if there was anything in the back. We creeped up, quietly to the back of the tent and saw the unbelievable, a coyote was brushing against the tent trying to get in. The coyote had long, jagged teeth with long gray hair. “What do we do?” I asked. “I’m going to throw the dagger at it.” Niko said. “Your small dagger isn't’t going to take down the coyote.” I insisted. I searched in my pocket for a knife, then a tiny knife fell out of my pocket, hitting the ground with a ring. The coyote peaked his head up and looked at us with a killer look. We sat still, the coyote could smell the fear we were giving off. I looked at Niko with frightened look, his lip quivered with fear. “We have to get out of here.” I whispered. “On three, 1,2,3!” He exclaimed, as we bolted away from the coyote.

We sprinted has fast as we could, with they coyote hot on our tails, we ran, and, run until, Niko tripped on a small cactus. The coyote was sure to catch up to him, but then I grabbed a small dagger out of my pocket and threw it right at the coyote, hitting it right in the foot. Niko had just enough time to get up, as the small dagger barely affected the large coyote. As we kept running I saw a cactus field, we ran closer, and closer to it, and decided it would be the best way to lose the coyote, so we dodged and ducked, over and through cactuses, until Niko got caught in one, The coyote was nowhere to be seen, at least that's what I thought. As I tried to figure out a way to get Niko out of the cactus, I pulled him trying to get off, but he wouldn't’t budge. “Grab my knife.” Niko said. “Where is it?” I asked. “In my pocket.” Niko claimed. As I reached into his pocket and tried to grab the knife, I heard a howl,

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

Whenever we had gym, I was scared to show my body because it was so bony and I knew people would laugh, when they laughed, I felt like an outsider.…

My reaction to this activity was that it was much more complex than I anticipated it to be. I had to replay the video multiple times and piece together Myla’s words. It took a combination of con-text clues, lip reading and replaying a several 5 second increments repeatedly to complete the dialogue. In our MLU example packets, there were lines of “indistinguishable dialogue” and I felt like that happened more often than just a few lines for me when I was playing the video.…
