He looks up and reminisce about the good old days when he played for Miami Springs Middle school. When I asked what number he had he looked at me and said and “MANN I had that big 14 boy.” We both laughed as I continued to ask him questions. Ed also played for Miami Springs Highshool. Ed went to UAB to play college basketball. As I asked Coach if he was a bookworm or slacker he smirked evilly and replied “well its college so you really can’t slack, but I was a class clown, so you could basically say I was a borderline slacker.” Coach said that “going to college out in Alabama was crazy, it was like they never have seen a Hispanic man before, but having to learn to stop living that city boy life was hard, all in all moving to going to college out in Alabama made me a better man.” Coach’s coming of age was him having to realize that life isn’t a game anymore and that he had to get used to not always having someone there to pick him up whenever he falls.
