Personal Narrative: Child Abuse At Home

Improved Essays
When I was in 5th grade, at the mere age of 10, my mother left me alone at home with my 4 siblings to go to divorce court. To her dismay the babysitter cancelled at last minute. It made me sad to see her so upset, feeling so helpless. Without hesitation I put my arm around her and said, “Don’t worry mom. I can take care of them.” Being the oldest, naturally I had to step it up and take charge. It was not just one child to watch over. My brother Louie, my brother Solly, and my brother Ernie were by far the hardest to manage. They would always be up to something. Ernie, who was the baby and

Growing up in a single parent household, I have faced many trials and tribulations. One of these trials and tribulations was growing up in a low income family with limited opportunities. I was a bright, productive student, in 9th grade year I tried my hardest, even in math and science, to make my freshman year the best and most productive; I got good grades, joined the track team and got a job. But then during my 10th through 11th grade years I began to experience verbal and mental abuse at the hand of a family member. At one point I had run away from home to get away from my problems.…

Tears of joy streaming down my aunt's face, being squeezed by relatives for group pictures, tropical heat causing sweat to form in the small of my back; Regardless of how uncomfortable it is to step out of my comfort zone, my family's annual trips to Cuba are something I've always looked forward to. In the year of 1999, I was born in Cabaiguán, Cuba. If it had been up to my mother, I would have been born in the United States. Immigration laws required us to stay for at least six months after my birth before coming to America. Despite us moving to the United States, my parents always made sure I didn't forget where I came from.…

A big issue for me was the fact that, even though Julie was abused by her father, there had to be a way to play the side of Julie that it’s hurt and not angry. My first instinct was to play fear. I thought that Julie kept this fear for her father over the years. When I found out that Julie more than scare was hurt finally could have an overall vision of what my main purpose was. She is there at the hospital because she needs to face her father before he passes away, she knows that this is her last chance to close that door and start a new page, even though she will not admit it Child abuse is a big deal no matter what it is wrong and there are no excuses for this, nevertheless a big deal for me was to find the way of showing that hurt adult that Julie is.…

Little Traumatized Girl What started off as an ordinary muggy summer morning would soon turn into a cruel and lurid day that I would never obliterate. I was discombobulated that approximately a catastrophic altercation would break out in the house while I played outside, I didn’t know that the cops would be showing up, I didn’t know that soon my consolidated life would change permanently. That proleptical morning, I tumbled out of bed and took a solid yellow cup of aqua outside to place on my swingset. It always amused me to put aqua in a cup and then by the end of the day the water disappeared, I conceptualized that I had some kind of magical hands.…

Two problems that are extremely important to me are the issues of child abuse and professional inequality for minorities. Though they are classified as completely separate, complex topics, I strongly believe each problem needs to be solved. I am blessed to have grown up in a stable household where I was always surrounded by love and support. When I was little, I thought that this was normal. As I grew up and began volunteering with a local non-profit, Sharing and Caring, I was exposed to extremely different family situations.…

Personal Narrative There are many times in a person’s life when you have to assert your independence. An example of this would be the tasks of taking care of yourself, taking care of another person, or even something as big as moving out of your parents’ house. Or maybe you learned a new skill that you can do independently such as getting a job, doing your own laundry, cooking for yourself, or getting your driver’s license. These independent assertions may seem small but they are quite big steps in life.…
