Personal Narrative: Biological Macromolecules

So how you feeling about last night,” I asked as we sat at a table. “It was cool,” she said as she bit into her sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit. “That’s it,” I said in an unsatisfying tone. “What else do you want me to say?” “Tell me your thoughts, anything.” “I mean it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was gonna be. I can see myself doing it for a while.” After she said that I laughed a little. “What’s so funny,” she asked. “You ain’t been exposed yet. The only reason it went smooth is because it was a Tuesday night. It doesn’t always go down like that. Just wait and see.”

Biology has never been my strongest subject. Learning about molecular structures of biological macromolecules will never interest me. As I try to get through the professor’s dreadful PowerPoint, I glanced back at Meka who was snoring like a bear. I shook her arm until she woke up. I gave her a look and then motioned her to wipe the drool from the side of her face. Luckily for me biology is my only class this semester, so I’m able to go home afterwards.

Ever since I got put on academic probation two months ago, I’ve been trying to step my game up. Since I made a few stacks over the past few days, I’m not going in tonight. A couple of hours have passed by and my brain was fried. As I lay on the couch watching Grey’s Anatomy, my cell phone rings. I quickly answered when I saw it was

These three tests are going to examine different properties of macromolecules such as their bonds, and functional groups to identify the solution as one of the four macromolecules. The iodine test is used to determine the presence of polysaccharides such as starch and glycogen in the solution (Harisha, 2006).…

The bell rang, again and I grabbed my stuff and went straight to the science room. We’re doing a lab on growing different kinds of plants and seeing how tall they get each day. My headache got worse every 5 minutes. At least that’s what it felt like. When there were ten minutes left of science I asked my teacher, Mrs. Bobby, if I could go down to the office and get some tylenol.…

Due to their weight, macromolecules make up a great part of a living organic cell. Biological molecules are put under groups based on the way they behave and the similarities they share. There are four main types of macromolecules, namely proteins, nucleic acids, fats and membrane lipids and carbohydrates (which include monosaccharides and polysaccharides). (Alberts, Walter, Bray, Hopkin, Johnson, & Lewis, 2015) There are four smaller organic molecule families which are the primary components of macromolecules.…

Eukaryotic cells are cells whose nucleus is bound by a membrane; these cells contain organelles, which are structures each enclosed within its own membrane found only in eukaryotic cells, each organelle has a specific function inside a cell. One type of organelle is a lysosome, which are the organelles that dispose of waste and toxins. Lysosomes are fluid filled sacks which range in size from 0.1 to 1.2 micrometres and contain around fifty degradative enzymes that enable it to effectively dispose of unwanted substances inside of a cell; this includes excess and faulty organelles, food particles, viruses and bacteria (Micro.magnet.fsu.edu, 2016). These are contained inside of a plasma membrane which are made up of phospholipids and can fuse…

The homework due Monday didn’t take long, I could’ve easily gotten ahead on my L.A. paper but I decided against it telling myself “Oh, I got until Wednesday. I got plenty of time and putting it off one more day wouldn’t be a problem.” I shutdown my computer that I used for homework and headed to the basement to play Madden 16 which I knew was probably the reason for rushing my homework and not trying to get ahead on anything, but I just convinced myself against this theory because I just wanted to play my game. I played until about midnight and forced myself to bed.…

An insight in the biophysical properties of bio macromolecules Natural biopolymers such as nucleic acids, proteins and carbohydrates are essential for life as we see it today. It is incredible to think how this vast set of molecules that are in every living thing, from bacteria to human beings, are mostly made up by six elements (carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur and phosphorus). These biopolymers have the properties to, from small monomers, build giant tridimensional structures with a lot of different functions. How physical and chemical properties of atoms make these macromolecules possible? What is the chemistry behind their three dimensional configuration?…

I was born 24 years ago as the daughter of a Zeugitae in the city Athens. I had a simple childhood life, learning my education at home from my mother. In the 13th year of my life, I became an adult and was to be married to one of the sons from a neighbor of ours, and left my own family to live with his. After a few years of happily living together with our son, my husband and some of the other males in the city were recruited by the army and sent to war in Arginusae against the Spartans. After what felt like forever of being separated from my dearly beloved and many days of praying to the gods for my husband to stay safe, he had finally returned home to us.…
