Reardan—The gym at Reardan was packed on Friday night two hours before the game. With the Reardan Indians 12-1 record in the regular season,and their only recorded loss being to their only rivals, The Indians were desperate for revenge against the top team in the district, the Wellpinit Indians. And that’s exactly what they got. The Indians defeated the Redskins Friday night by forty points and a final score of 83-43. The team set a new record for most points ever tallied by a team in the district. It appeared early on that Wellpinit had the momentum, as Redskins star player, “Rowdy” charged straight for the basket, with Arnold Spirit, a regular third string shooting guard, chasing after him. I will never quit playing hard; and I don’t just mean in basketball. I’m never going to quit living life this hard, you know? I’m never going to surrender to anybody. Never, ever, ever.” he said. And that is exactly what he did. For the young native of Wellpinit, who has experienced the feelings of being cut from a school team, Spirit thought that he might as well not try out for the team this season at Reardan, but with the advice from his dad, Spirit decided to sign up. And this was Spirit’s year. The coach, whose name is undisclosed to the public, saw his dedication to improve, and improve is what he did this season. The coach of Reardan High school explained to the young men that he believed they had a “secret weapon” they could use during the game. “We have Arnold Spirit,” he said, and then asked Arnold if he could start the game for them that night, and cover “Rowdy” for the entire game. The coach later explained that “He knew Arnold could do it,” and Arnold could not have asked for a better way to play against his former team in Wellpinit. “I never wanted to win anything more in my life.” The Indians look forward to keeping this momentum as they finish up the regular season
