Personal Narrative: A Career As A Physical Agent

After completing the self-assessment tool, one area identified as needed further professional development was incorporating the use of physical agent modalities into my treatment interventions. This was not surprising to learn, as I have always been less comfortable using mechanical and electrotherapeutic modalities due to my lack of extensive training and experience. When I started working as a COTA, I was working in a nursing home where modalities were used infrequently. The combination of being fresh out of school, and my limited knowledge on the subject, resulted in my decision to implement other treatment strategies within my interventions. Currently, I am practicing within the school systems where there are limited opportunities to use
