Personal Narrative: A Brain With Books

A Brain with Books Literature has created an exceptionally controversial debate within the United States among scholars. Scholars have created multiple articles providing their argument over the way literature can or can not affect humans and make them better. Literature can and will make us better people, because it allows us as humans to empathize for others, enhance knowledge on diverse topics, and create moral standards. Literature creates scenarios, characters, and connections that allows readers to create a sense of empathy while reading. Receiving this sense of empathy while reading literature allows us to be better people, because it spreads humanity and is a sort of emotional intelligence in reality. There are far more positive attributes to reading literature that has not been mentioned, however I have a deep understanding and history with empathy while reading, understanding complex situations, and setting moral standards for myself in my every day living. I have always loved literature, therefore my sophomore year I decided to enroll in a Pre-Advanced English class. During that school year, I was introduced to the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee. The novel was focused on prejudice in the south, and an underserving criminal charge against a colored man. The novel allowed me to empathize with the characters throughout the story, learn and expand my knowledge of the difficult situations, and also to explore human morality and set standards for myself.
