“So first off, what would you identify your career as, or what do you want to be known as?” I asked him. In response, he replies, “An entrepreneur.” I actually already knew much about him, since we’ve been friends for so long. His name is Aron Collins; he runs part of a franchise, known as Comfort Keepers, in two different locations in Texas. Its specialty is in-home care for the elderly, and Mr. Collins has been quite successful in building his business up. When he first became the owner of a company, I remember when he had to live with he and his wife –(read this and tell me if it makes sense to you) had to live with his sister-in-law. He even told me once how his salary consisted of less than a dollar a day. However, he now lives in a comfy house with his wife and his young daughter. He was always an optimistic, motivated guy who does whatever has to be done. Collins actually enjoys writing for his career. It doesn’t seem like a chore or bother to him at all, and he explains it as “good for the mind.” When I inquired if he bases potential workers off of their writing skills, he answered without a moment of hesitation. “Yes, absolutely. Everyone who applies is required to write a cover letter for their resume.” A cover letter basically conveys extra information about the person, or goes over the contents of their resume. I feel like there’s no necessity for the previous line It’s the first thing that an employer sees, and could even decide whether the person is right for the job or not. If their cover letter doesn’t meet Mr. Collins’s expectations, or impress him, he will most likely not even consider them for the job. He goes on describing one woman in particular, who stood out from the rest. “She wrote one of the best cover letters I’ve ever seen,” he explains, “and now she’s my Director of Professional Relations.” After Mr. Collins hired her, she took over the job of promoting the business, proving to be quite successful at it. He even wrote her a letter of recommendation, confirming her skill and experience. With this she was accepted into a special, community-centered program known as Leadership
