Meg saved charles wallace from the it. Meg had to allow her love for him to overcome the evil..... she had to love him out of IT's control. Meg's love breaks the spell, and IT cannot win that battle. Meg has to go to to save him from it Camazotz Meg had to save charles when they got back to planet uriel She is the one who is closest with Charles and the one who is therefore most likely to get through to him, to bring him back successfully.

On first sight, Calvin O'Keefe might not seem to have much in common with Meg and Charles Wallace. After all, he's in the popular crowd, on the basketball team, and so good in school he's skipped a couple of grades. They fly over a garden “more beautiful than anything in a dream” that is filled with creatures like the one Mrs. Whatsit had become. They are singing, but not from their throats - rather from their wings. Though Meg cannot understand the music, Mrs. Whatsit implores Charles Wallace to translate it. On Charles Wallace’s face, Meg can see the look of someone trying to wrap their minds around a great puzzle. Mrs. Whatsit soon translates it, and the words begin with “Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein....” Meg feels a “pulse of joy” at these words, though Mrs. Whatsit sighs with a “whisper of doubt.”
