I feel as if I have met majority of the student learning outcomes that a professional nurse demonstrates in his/her practice. Not only have I had the opportunity to integrate theories and concepts from the classroom to my clinical nursing practice, but I also have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes in leadership, quality improvement, and patient safety to provide high quality health care for my future patients as a registered nurse (Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing, 2016). I have received feedback from my past clinical instructors that I have consistently been a leader during my clinical shifts and that I work well with my peers and preceptors to provide high quality care for my patients. I believe my nursing practice throughout all my past clinical have been grounded in the translation of current evidence, and I plan to continue using evidence based practice for the rest of my career, for my patients deserve the highest quality care and practice that is current supported by evidence (Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing, 2016). I also feel comfortable and confident in my knowledge of skills in information literacy and patient care technology, as I have had multiple opportunities working and learning with the newest and best technology at VCU Health Systems (Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing, …show more content…
I believe that taking on my preceptor’s assignment in full will allow me to get more experience when it comes to focusing on each patient. In order to achieve appropriate and efficient time management, I plan on using all resources available on my unit in order to do so. I plan on taking report from night shift, assessing, document, delegating, communicating and giving medication all under the supervision of my preceptor in a timely manner. I also plan on working on my time management even more since this semester since I will be assigned many more patients than in previous semesters, and I plan to prioritize each patient’s individual needs as the day goes on. Prioritization of each patients needs is important when providing safe and quality care to the patients. In previous semesters, I would just watch my preceptor page or contact any member of the interprofessional team, but I want that to be a priority of mine this semester of NURS 496, so therefore I also plan to have direct contact with each patient’s team consisting of physicians, OT/PT, and speech therapy, which will not only increase confidence working with the interprofessional team, but it will also benefit my communication skills with team members outside of
