The mariner, the navigator, the sailor, or the pirate? The performer identified himself as all of these depending on the situations during a particular time in the performance. One event that sticks with me the most, one that the entire performance was rooted in, was the killing of the albatross. The mariner made friends with the albatross before, one day, losing it and killing it with his bow and arrow. This shaped the rest of the story! At first the other men on board were very mad and upset, one because he killed the albatross and two because the others thought the albatross brought them wind that would push them out of the ice that surrounded them in the ocean. The performance of albatross was effective as a whole because, like I just mentioned in the previous paragraph, Benjamin was active, loud, energetic, and had effective use of props. One simple thing to would have made the performance more effective, in my eyes, is eliminating or at least greatly reducing the cursing. What cultural connections can be made or seen from this performance? I saw the entire play as a metaphor, a metaphor for life. How is this you might ask? Just think about it, it’s all about choices we make and how they affect our lives forever. The mariner left his sick child to “have one drink” and ended up being taken hostage and going on an unwanted adventure that left him torn and beaten, made him a murderer, made him see things/hallucinate. Although he found enough gold to make him rich forever he ended up with nothing. I compare, hypothetically, to someone on drugs. You will throw away your life looking for your next fix. What values or benefits of the culture can you see confirmed or presented in your example? Simple answer, value the things in your life that matter …show more content…
I have already stated my cultural connection to the performance and honestly there wasn’t a personal connection related. If you were to create, write and perform the story of “you,” what artistic choice from the performance could you steal for the play/performance of “you?” If I were to write a story of me I would like it performed in the same manor albatross was performed in the fact that it was a one man show. The difference being, the story of me would be a more solemn act told sternly. I will use my favorite pastime as my performance, hunting. The setting will be nature related, obviously, and consist of a story told about my first hunting trip and harvesting my first deer. Why and how would it work? It probably wouldn’t work because, truly, my hunting experience or my life in general isn’t theatre material. Why and how does this particular part refer or display “you?” This would display me because it is me. This entire #7 series of question is confusing… Is it supposed to be about me or how “I” compare to the performance? Build upon something in the performance that you really enjoyed or found engaging. In the performance of me I find everything engaging, it is my life and I live it because I chose
