Percy Julian was an Intelligent African American. Percy was born in 1899 and died in 1975 from liver cancer. He’s also the oldest one from all his five siblings. Percy went to five universities and earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree. Who would of know that Percy Julian that was basically denied from universities was gonna become an important and well known person in the USA as an major chemist. He was elected as the second African American in The National Academy of Sciences. And he was only 16 years old when he was accepted as a sub freshmen in DePaul university. He graduated head of his classmates in Phi Beta Kappa university in 1920. Percy learned how to speak fluent German. He was a grandson from a former slave. Percy …show more content…
Most of Percy childhood was in Jim Crow south. Jim Crow South was a group of white people that did violence, discrimination and poverty towards people in color. He came from a family of eight including himself. He has two sisters and three brothers. James Sumner Julian whose Percy’s father a railroad clerk who never had a chance to get a education and his mother Elizabeth Lena Julian a school teacher. Julian was born in April 11,1899 in Montgomery,Alabama. He grew up in the time of racist. As years went by Percy graduated from elementary school so therefore he had to move from state to get this education at a private black high school, that was badly prepared for college. Only because public highs didn't let African American there. Later on Percy father’s moved with his two sons and three daughters to green castle so that they could of follow Percy’s steps. Thanks to his hard work he was able to achieve all his goals and dreams, but not the way he dreamed it because of racism. In his educational achievements he wanted to earn his bachelor’s from Depaul University, His master's from Harvard University and his doctoral from The University of Vienna. Which he did accomplished. He also had Civic achievements when he decided to raise funds to fight against discrimination with lawsuits. So that the racism would stop and have peace and to be treat right like others. He also had scientific achievements where he found more useful ways of using soybean as aero foam and soybean soup. Percy also had business and financial achievements where he head a research lab of a Major chemical company that was sold in the time of 1961. And the most important achievement of all was that he was married for forty years with his wife and also a great father who raised two successful
