Are People Truly Good At Heart?
Everyone likes to think that they have a pure heart, that people always try to be the kindest they could ever be. And yes, people slip up once and awhile but everyone does. People still do listen, come together, and help others. So, “[despite] everything that has happened, I still believe that people are truly good at heart” (pg. 512).
Starting the whole thing off is that despite what many think, people do listen, even if it doesn’t feel like it. One example from “The Diary of Anne Frank” is, “Mr. Frank- We are all here, alive. That is present enough. Anne- No, it isn’t. I’ve got something” (pg.481). When the “family” is celebrating Hanukkah, everyone knows that they probably won’t have gifts this year. But despite

Van Daan- Please. I’m so ashamed. Dussel: Oh, for God’s sake! Mrs. Van Daan- Don’t, Putti. Margot- It doesn’t matter now!” (pg. 502). In the moment the “family” was in a heated argument that seemed like it would have the worst resolution. But when Miep explains that “the invasion has begun” (pg. 501), everyone rejoices, forgives, and forgets. Continuing on further , “Mrs Frank - Poor Darling. Try to sleep then. I’ll sit right here beside you until you fall asleep” (pg. 477). In the play, Anne and her mother (Mrs. Frank) don’t get along and it is very clear to see. Anne even say that her mother doesn’t get her. However when Anne has a nightmare that put her in a panic, her mother tries to comfort her and help her fall back asleep. And finally, concluding , “Dussel- I haven’t adjusted myself to others. I hope you’ll bear with me until then. Anne -Let me help you” (pg. 473). When the “family first meets Mr. Dussel, you may have expected them to be a little tentative toward him. Although it is quite the contrary, they welcome him with open …show more content…
The first quote used to prove this is, “ Mr. Dussel- What can I say to thank you…” (PDF pg. 725). Even if the family did not know Mr. Dussel very well, they open up their hiding place to him to help them in his time of need, proving that the families/ “family” are generous and kind. Further diving into the subject “Mr. Frank- Please. Don’t think anything of it. After all, we’ll have plenty of leisure to arrange ourselves” (PDF pg.705). After Miep and Mr. Kraler are risking their lives to help the Franks and Van Daans, Mr.Frank is thanking them because he knows he can never repay them. And closing everything off, “Peter: Well, any time you want to let off steam, you can come into my room” (PDF pg.758). This is a big one because up until this point Anne and Peter have never gotten along. But after a heated quarrel with the “family”, Peter knows that Anne was never trying to hurt Peter, but trying to lighten the mood. With this in mind, he lets her come into his room if she ever needs to talk things

This quote portrays Austria as a small country that basically shuts itself off from the rest of the world. There seems to be little that could change the country from its isolation and involve it in world problems. Realistically, we, the United States, is unable to cut itself off from the rest of the world. As a world leader we are forced to be aware of conflicts, war, and injustice that are happening in the world today.…
