After a year in the Air Force and being with David Hill, Patrick received an honorable discharge and moved to Long Beach. The two men lived together but during that year their relationship experienced problems. Hours of arguing, hours of yelling, and hours of solidarity from one another led David to leave Patrick for his ex-wife. This was the breaking point for Patrick. In the spring of 1962, Patrick Kearney committed his first murder which would end fifteen years and forty bodies later. The name of the victim was unknown, but Patrick had picked the nineteen year old up at a gay bar and convinced him to ride with him on his motorcycle around the outskirts of Indio, California. When they arrived to a secluded area, without any hesitation or warning, Patrick pulled out a gun and shot the man in the head. He then sexually assaulted the body, but it is not known what happened to the remains. The victim had had a younger cousin who had seen the man drive off with Patrick; out of fear of being caught, Patrick returned to the gay bar and told the other boy he would take him to his cousin’s location. Upon their arrival, Patrick shot the boy in the head, assaulted the body, and left the remains in the desert. These first two deaths would spiral Patrick into years of anger, leading to more murders. That same year, David returned to California to move in with Patrick. Having his partner back eased Patrick’s anger, but nevertheless, he still continued to murder. The next murder took place in Tijuana, Mexico, where Patrick and David were visiting a close friend of David’s. The victim, who was known as “George”, was shot in the head while sleeping in the master bedroom of the house in Mexico. Patrick took the body to the bathtub, performed sodomy, skinned and dismembered the body, and buried the remains in the backyard. Patrick
