Pathophysiology Of Headache Essay

Improved Essays
The pathophysiology of a headache to has not been aattributed to a single diease. It is however divided into three components. Mainly, migraine, tension headache, and cluster headache. A migraine headache is believed to arise from activation and sensibilization of trigeminal nociceptors, essential processes are located at the meninges and the meningeal vessels (Gaul, MeBlinger, Holle-Lee, Neeb, 2017).

The exact cause of a tension headache is unknown; however, it is believed that pericranial myofascial mechanisms play a significant role in episodic tension-type headache, whereas chronic type headache results from sensitization of pain pathways in the central nervous system resulting from prolonged nociceptive stimuli from pericranial myofascial

In addition, histamine release, an increase in mast cells, genetic factors, and autonomic nervous system activation may also contribute (Weaver-Agostoni, 2013).

Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is believed to have essential importance concerning a migraine and cluster headache. In addition, mechanisms leading to peripheral and central sensitization plays a significant role in chronification of a migraine and tension-type headache (Gaul, MeBlinger, Holle-Lee, Neeb, 2017). Furthermore, the hypothalamus seems to have an essential meaning in the initiation of migraine attacks. Finally, dysbalance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic neural system causes cranial-autonomic symptoms in some headache diseases (Gaul, MeBlinger, Holle-Lee, Neeb, 2017)

b) What will your physical exam include?
Physical examination will include vital signs and general appearance (eg, whether restless or calm in a dark room). A general examination with a focus on the head and neck and a full neurological exam should be assessed. The neurological examination involves the patient’s speed, symmetry, and coordination while moving to the examining table, as well as, posture and gait (Newman,

Headaches are a common symptom in patients that are diagnosed with MTBI. Individuals who participate in high contact activities are prone to and have a higher risk of direct cranial impact. Athletes who participate in high contact sports and military personnel are subjected to experience head injury from physical impact. The objective of this study is to resolve the chronic pain from headaches, which come in conjunction with MTBI cases, using transcranial magnetic stimulation. The search for an alternative solution to MTBI-related headaches (MTBI-HA) without high abusive risks and psychosomatic side-effects, will provide effective prevention, treatment, and rehab to patients who suffer from MTBI, post-concussion, and chronic posttraumatic headaches.…

Taking action into his own hands, he made a swing from his father’s plow-line between two trees, his head hurt too much to swing comfortably, so he let the rope down to about 8 to 10 inches off the ground, placed a blanket over it, laying stretched on the ground and his neck across the rope. Soon he drifted off to sleep. Waking up he found that his headache was gone. Dr Still followed this method of treating his headaches for 20 years accepting that this method worked for himself, before he reasoned out the how and why that this particular treatment worked. What his neck rope did was suspending the action of the occipital nerves and give harmony to the flow of arterial blood through the veins and ease the effect of the headache.…

Part of the reason researchers believe migraines are less prevalent in seniors is that seniors have learned to manage their migraine triggers. Migraines are usually linked to life events. For example, stress, foods, caffeine, and even changes in the weather can cause a migraine to start. By learning what their triggers are, seniors are able to modify their lifestyle in order to prevent or mediate the occurrence of a migraine.…

The lateral aspect of the superior frontal gyrus is a large and functionally heterogeneous brain region, ie the dorsal lateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC)76. The DLPFC provides top-down control of sensory and affective processes. The connectivity between VSi and DLPFC has been shown to play a role in pain regulation. The previous study has identified a novel corticostriatal circuit in the regulation of chronic neuropathic pain which consistent with our findings. In sum, these regions, predominantly right lateralized, have been implicated in high-level pain-modulatory mechanisms that are recruited when the pain experience is altered by changing expectations, beliefs, and judgments about pain77–82.…

David Hume’s belief that morality is based on sentiment can be defined by the feelings of approval and disapproval one will have when they act. Hume argues that reason cannot discover moral truths but that sentiment is the basis of morality. I agree with Hume in the sense that one needs a feeling of approval or disapproval in order to motivate an action. Hume presents the argument that one's feelings is the basis of morality and that reasons, not reason alone, which is defined to be a cause or justification on why one may act, can not be the basis of morality solely because reason is already proved and can not be changed by influence.…

Faillenot and Peyron (2009) were able to figure out that the brain’s of those with congenital insensitivity,a disorder that cause one to be unable to feel the sensations of any real nerve-related sensations while still being able to feel pressure, shows brain activations patterns, while watching pain in other people, in shared-circuits for other and self pain. That discovery lead Knoth and Schredl (2011) to believe that they same principle may account for third-person pain memories, which cause pain sensations within dreams. A physical symptom which can increase the occurrence of pain dreams are headaches, one who experiences being bothered by headaches has a higher chance of pain dreams. Knoth and Shredl (2011) though their experiments found a significant positive correlation between the aforementioned occurrences.…
