Paris's Motivation In The Trojan War

There is no doubt that, as humans, we may not make decisions with the prefered interest in mind. This is proven by the story of The Judgement of Paris. In the story, Paris chooses Aphrodite to receive the golden apple, which means that she is the fairest of the three goddesses. With his choice comes the start of the Trojan War. Because of this, it is easy to see that motivation has a great effect on the outcome of a situation. Paris’s motivation was of greed. This is clear, since his choice was influenced by a petty bribe: Aphrodite promised him that the fairest woman in all the world should be his if she was chosen. Paris wants Helen, and so she is given to him, thus marking the point in which a war was bound to happen. Greed is nasty, selfish, has been the fall of cities such as Troy, and should be feared. This is because with that power comes the respect and honor from Athena and possibly the most beautiful person in the world. Despite how badly Paris’s greed came around to bite him, this plan would be more likely to work. Greed may not be as bad as it is cut out to be. If played correctly, it can work out in a good way. While greed may be nasty, selfish, and vulgar, it can also be used as a strategy.
