Parenting Styles
In today’s society, many parenting methods make their way to the forefront of parenting styles. Among these methods includes tiger parenting, Western parenting, and helicopter parenting. All of these methods are commonly used, even though some of the techniques used may be seen as extreme. There is controversy over which parenting style is the most effective, or which results in the most successful children. As many people believe, helicopter parenting is an extremely effective method of parenting in younger children; however, once children reach teenage years, a mix of Western parenting and tiger parenting would be most effective while allowing the children to handcraft their own life.

In Don Aucoin’s article, “For Some, Helicopter Parenting Delivers Benefits,” Aucoin explains how helicopter parenting actually has positive side effects for many families. Helicopter parenting is a parenting method used by parents who have a hard time leaving their children on their own. This parenting style is used to create a special bond between parents and their children, and often times helps children be more friendly towards other adults. Despite popular belief, Aucoin explains how helicopter parenting is widely used and often times leads to very healthy relationships between parents and their children. Studies also show that children of helicopter parents have a better social life with other adults, and that they are overall happier with their daily lives. Aucoin states, “The survey found that college students whose parents fit the survey’s definition of helicopter parents… were more engaged in learning and reported greater satisfaction with their colleges, even though they had slightly lower grades than other students”(226). Helicopter parenting may create the best relationship between parents and their children; however, this method of parenting also comes with drawbacks. As a result of relying on their parents through hard times, children of helicopter parenting are more apt to lack independence and they seldom learn from their mistakes. Of the three parenting styles, Western parenting is the most effective method to raise unique children. Tiger parenting is known to turn children into young adults through harsh discipline and stringent education. Children of tiger parenting rarely have the opportunity to experience a true childhood, and therefore lack the ability to create their own unique personality. Children of Helicopter parenting also rarely have the opportunity to create their mentality. As the name implies, Helicopter parents almost never give children the opportunity to become independent and create their own lives with their own hands. Western parenting allows the most freedom of all the parenting methods. Western parenting is also primarily incorporated to develop the most unique child possible. Rosin’s technique allows children to live their lives as they dream, thus creating an extremely unique

In the article, “Get Over the Stranger Danger and Join the Free-Rangers,” Elizabeth Renzetti has a very strong opinion on the fact that helicopter parenting is not good for your child and that you should let them be more independant. She grew in a society where herself and her brothers could have been in the arcade while their dad was record shopping across the street, and nobody would say a thing. Today, she is seeing that parents are clearly being a little too overprotective and are limiting what their kids can and can't do, and she thinks this needs to change. Parents who support helicopter parenting have strong reasoning behind them. These parents tend to have better relationships with their children in the future, the risk of child abduction and overall safety of your child is in the parents hands, and kids who have a watchful eye over them tend to be more rule…

Parenting practices are vital to alleviate stress from the children; keeping marital conflict and economic hardship away from the children is also important for the child 's health (Lee et al., 2013). By protecting and aiding the child’s feelings of emotional security, children are able to cope with any familial problems, which consequently leads to a lower chance of having any mental illness. However, going overboard when it comes to child care has negative effects as well. A study done showed that students that were allowed greater autonomy reported higher life satisfaction, physical health, and self-efficacy (handling of complicated tasks and adverse situations) than students with "helicopter parents. " Students with lower self-efficacy reported higher levels of anxiety and depression (Reed et al., 2016).…

The first parenting style that will be discussed is the authoritarian parenting style. Authoritarian parenting is characterized by behaviors that are highly limiting and tremendously demanding. Authoritarian parents are neither warm nor responsive to their children and have high maturity demands for their children due to the fact that they are intolerant of selfishness or inappropriate behavior (Marsiglia et.al. 2007; Spera, 2005). The authoritarian parenting style is associated with parents who emphasize obedience and conformity and expect that rules be obeyed without explanation in a less warm environment (Hoskins, 2014).…

In conclusion, the author analyses and discusses the reasons why America fears this Eastern way of parenting and why whether you choose to be a Tiger or a soft-hearted parent, a mixture of both is best.
