Del Toro didn’t just make Pans labyrinth just because of his creative imagination but also because it represented part of his life growing up as a child.
Pans Labyrinth was produced in the year 2006 but the film is set in the 1990s specifically 1944 some years after the Spanish war ended and the Spanish francoist movement took over. The film is about a young girl Ofelia who lived with her pregnant mother Carmen but then they had to go and live with the captain “Vidal” a very wicked man. Ofelia crosses between but I would like to say she pans between two worlds because I think the title Pans can be denoted as Ofelia panning from the real world into labyrinth the fantasy world as she meet a creature which later turns into a fairy and leads he into Labyrinth where she meets with a Faun.
Talking about the use of mise en scene the director uses a an awesome sequence opens with a shot of the camera zooming in Ofelias eye as the zoom closes up more into her eyes it can be said the director used this to usher us into the life of Ofelia as the eye can the said to be where the soul lies.
