The title of chapter four, of the book, The Lord of Flies, by William Golding, is “Painting faces and long hairs”. The title, relates to the concept of savagery because as in the war, soldiers tend to paint their faces in order to be invisible to the enemy, and therefore trick and brutally attack them, the young boys of the novel decided to follow the well-known war strategy in order to surprise and murder the helpless pig, thus, they can feed themselves, when the night comes. The lack of rules and instructions of proper behavior in both cases brought in the light the fundamentally evil nature of mankind and resulted in inexcusable actions.
