Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria was one of the most remarkable drug traffickers that has ever lived. Pablo was born in a little town called Rionegro, located close to Colombia’s capital which is Medellin. One of Pablo’s famous known quotes was “plata o plomo” which means money or death. In this motto Pablo stated that if people were against him or did not do what he asked to do, he would kill them. Pablo Escobar was considered a criminal because he was the leader and founder of the “Medellin Cartel” which lead to major catastrophes, people considered him as an eager person or a monster while his family and the poor saw him as an idol, and he unleashed the war in Colombia.

A Colombian president named Belisario Betancur once said, “We are up against an organization stronger than the state” (Flippone 324). This was due to the fact that the “Medellin Cartel” controlled part of the Colombian government which lasted for so many years. For many people with a straight mind, saw Escobar as an animal instead of a human. A few of Pablo’s cruel behaviors were the assassinations of two presidential candidates, Luis Carlos Galan and Rodrigo Lara Bonilla. The people employed for the murders was mainly impoverished commonly from South Medellin. The procedure was to spy the main objective for a couple of days, and typically used motorbikes or vehicles to kill the target (Flippone 339). When Rodrigo Lara started talking about extradition in the country, Pablo Escobar and the idea of being sent to the United States caused him fear, so he ordered the murder of the justice minister at the time and highly aspirant to become Colombia’s next president. In addition he did the same with the next running up presidential candidate Luis Carlos Galan. Andres Pastrana, the 30th president Colombia had in power reported that “the Medellin Cartel was looking for a promise form of the government that no Colombian will be extradited to the United States. Fear of extradition stems from the belief that, once in the United States, they are liable to receive stiff jail sentences in maximum security prisons, in contrast to Colombia, where judges and prison guards can be bought off or intimidated” (“Colombia Can’t Kick Drugs Alone” 308).
