I worked in a skilled nursing and rehab facility where we received a patient from many hospitals and other health care facilities in our surrounding areas, with a provided user name and password as well as consent for release of information, for the purpose of patient care, our designated medical staff can have access to the patient records to help prepare for the patient even before they arrive to our facility. The physician from our facility can have access to actual pictures of any x-rays, CT Scan and much more. This system helps our medical staff with time management, readiness and more effective design of the patient plan of care. In addition to its efficiency this electronic health records system also helps with cost saving for the patient and their insurance by avoiding the need of repeating tests or exams that were already done during their time to the previous facility. This is a fraction of the benefits of the EHR mandate to our facility, we have many disciplines involved in the patient care, the physical therapy team, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social workers, dietary team, nursing, the physicians medical records even family member who used to wait to for other staff to finish with paper chart until they can see, that used to create delay of treatment and waste of times.
