Becoming a successful engineering student is my main goal in college, specifically always having a great grade. But unfortunately, there are different kinds of barriers that always keep me from achieving that goal. College is full of these barriers, and there is no way to avoid these challenges but to actually confront them.
One of my current adversity is not being skillful in math. Back in elementary and high school, I did not take math really serious. I usually slack around, and never pay attention to my teachers. As a result, math became one of my worst weaknesses, which could be an awful characteristic for a student who is pursuing a degree in Engineering. I felt that I’m falling behind in math compared to average students in engineering. It was not until last summer when I start taking math absolutely serious. I knew that I will eventually fail in college if I did not start improving my math skills. Fearing of letting this adversity ruin my dream, I decided to make a noticeable change about myself. When he was just a freshman, he took Calculus 3 and realized it was too difficult for him at that time. After being stressed out for many weeks, he decided to drop out of the class during the middle of the semester. At first, he was disappointed about his decision. But when he retook the course during the summer of that year, he surprised that he received a decent grade. Since then, he was so thankful about the decision that he made early that year because he ended up benefitting more than he expected.
After hearing different kinds of adversity from different people, I learned that one of the best way to avoid adversity is to listen to other people’s mistakes. It would be helpful for me if I always learn from the mistakes made others, so that I can figure out how to avoid them in the
