Unfortunately skin cancer has become more common over the past years. According to the Gale Encyclopedia of Cancer in 2010, “Skin cancers account for as much as 50% of all cases of cancer.” Body image today plays a big part in the rise of skin cancer. The need to be tan caused an increase in self tanning which in turn causes more cases of skin cancer. The Environmental Protection Agency, in 2009, stated that more than 1million people were diagnosed with skin cancer. And It is estimated that about 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.” There is not just one type of skin cancer. There are actually three different kinds, including basal cell, squamous cell, and melanoma.
