The first client information you are reviewing pertains to Maddie. Maddie has a diagnosis of Down syndrome (2pts). Based on your resources, this diagnosis is due to an extra chromosome on the 21st chromosome (short answer response here – 5 pts) which would be considered a pediatric genetic condition (2pts) disorder. This disorder is characterized by characteristic facial features such as slanted eyes, skinfold over nasal corners of eyes, flat nasal bridge, small mouth, protruding tongue, low muscle tone throughout, intellectual disabilities, and simian creases in hands. FEEDING she is able to feed herself finger foods but can’t scoop or feed herself with a spoon. She can drink from a cup with a lid and straw and can hold the cup if it is small. DRESSING she can remove her socks and shoes independently, she is able to extend her arms and legs to assist in dressing. She is also able to hold her foot up for her sock to be put on. TOILETING she is still in diapers (short answer 10pts).
