Organs Involved In A Shark's Digestive System

There are several different sorts of organs involves in the human and shark digestive system. A shark’s digestive system begins at the mouth and ends at either a cloaca or anus. The shark processes food which moves by peristalsis through digestion, absorption and elimination. The general pattern of the digestive system for a shark is through the oral cavity, to the pharynx, oesophagus, stomach and intestine (see figure one). The accessory organs for the shark are the pancreas, liver and gallbladder, all arise as evaginations from the embryonic digestive tract. A human’s digestive system is very complex (see figure two). It begins at the mouth; the mouth chews down the food into pieces that can easily be digested. The stomach is a hollow organ which holds food while it’s combined with things called enzymes that continue the breaking down process so the food can be shaped into a usable form. The lining of cells in the stomach emits a strong acid and powerful enzymes that are responsible for the breaking down process. When all the stomach content is processed, it’s released into the small intestine. The small intestine is made up of the duodenum, jejunum and the ileum, and is 22-feet long. The small intestine is a muscular tube which breaks down food using enzymes, which are released by bile from the liver.
