The basis of life is founded on energy. Life without energy would mean life without movement, light, and also sound; in other words it would be impossible. Not a second goes by where energy is not present. When the sun is out, it emits light and heat, both forms of energy. When it is not out street lights are turned on using electricity, another form of energy. Stored energy can be found within the fuel tank of a car, similarly it can be found within all the undigested food in the stomach. Just as energy can be found in a number of different places, it can also be found in a number of different forms. One of the earliest ways …show more content…
Electromagnetic energy is the same as radiation or light energy. Electromagnetic energy is a type of kinetic energy. It can be a visible light wave like the light from a fire or it can be an invisible wave, like radio waves, microwaves, gamma rays, or x-rays. Any form of radiation, whether it be visible or not, is divided into photons which are small clusters of energy, and has the ability to travel in a vacuum. Every photon travels at the speed of light but has a unique energy, wavelength and frequency. Just as chemical energy can be converted from stored potential energy to kinetic energy, electromagnetic energy can be converted from kinetic energy into stored potential chemical energy. It can be converted through photosynthesis in plants, algae and a small group of other organisms. Photosynthesis converts radiation released from the sun and carbon dioxide into sugar and carbohydrates. Harnessing electromagnetic energy has become more and more common in recent times; especially through the use of solar panels. Solar panels turn the suns solar energy into electricity by using photovoltaics. With photovoltaics electrons are bumped when hit by radiation from the sun creating a direct current of electricity. The electrons follow a specified path along the solar panel to create the DC. From here the direct current can be sent to several locations. Either into batteries as DC, sent to the …show more content…
Mechanical energy in the total amount of energy present in a mechanical system. Whether it is moving, kinetic energy, or stored, potential energy. This essentially means that an object has mechanical energy if it is distanced from a position of zero potential energy or if it is in motion. A vehicle in gear for example contains kinetic energy because it is moving, this is mechanical energy. Another example is a textbook being lifted off a desk; it is above the point of zero potential energy therefore it has potential energy. When an object is in motion in any direction, it can be described as kinetic energy. Kinetic energy can be vibrational, translational, rotational or one of several different forms. When an object is storing energy based on its relative position in a force field such as gravity, it is described as potential energy, a term that was first used in the early nineteenth century. Energy is most often measured by the product of Newton’s and meters which are also known as Joules. Mechanical energy is extremely diverse due to its many different aspects. It is so diverse that it exists in every single body in the universe. Mechanical energy is everywhere; from a football being tossed to a pencil falling off of a desk. Discovering examples of mechanical energy is extremely easy because of this. There have been many developments recently regarding the harnessing of
