She says about her upbringing, "I lived in abject poverty and dysfunction." Her father was a horse and her mother a maid, and factory worker. When Viola Davis was two-months old her family moved her and two siblings from South Carolina to Rhode Island. She credits her high school Central Falls High School with winning her over toward acting. Viola Davis is the winner of Tony Awards as Tonya in Hedley II and Fences and the Drama Desk Awards for King Hedley II and for Intimate Apparel. Oprah Winfrey was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, to an unmarried teenage mother. Vernita Lee a maid and Oprah 's noted father, Vernon Winfrey was a coal miner and barber. Oprah and her mother lived with Vernita mother in severe poverty. Winfrey has discussed the absolute poverty which only allowed her grandmother to make her a dress out of potato sacks. Winfrey also endured sexual abuse at the age of nine. Reading at a young age allowed Oprah to appreciate reading which took her to college , a television show in Chicago which became the number one talk show for many years. This television personality, actress, philanthropist,spokesperson and businesswoman is a role model for
