Strategic Thinking and Key Stakeholders The ability of an organization to align itself with internal and external stakeholders enables better interactions and assists in meeting goals (Riel, 2012). Much care and effort should be made to build trust and relationships with stakeholders of all levels. Stakeholders are classified as internal, interface, or external, depending on their boundaries of involvement (Ginter, Duncan & Swayne, 2012). The internal stakeholders for Olympic Medical Center are all of the employees, managers, and volunteers within the organization. Their interface stakeholders include some of the medical staff and corporate officers. Olympic Medical Center’s strategic plan lists all of their numerous community partners who are external stakeholders. They evaluate the requirements of the national and state health policies, research current technologies and evidence-based practices, and analyze the local medical demands and economic constraints in order to make appropriate health care decisions for their community. They serve a vulnerable population, which includes a large amount of seniors over age 65, and a significantly low-income population. By making as many medical services accessible and affordable, they hope to best serve this community so to limit the need to travel to urban centers to receive care. They provide a Level 3 Trauma Center, labor and delivery, a large variety of specialty care units, and many outpatient services such as home health, rehabilitations, laboratories, and diagnostic
