“Smell like a Man, Man”, the slogan to an extremely popular advert for the American brand of male grooming products known as Old Spice. Old Spice was found in 1943 and was the top male grooming products seller up until Axe came around, that was when sales for Old Spice were dropping. Many people viewed Old Spice as their name said, old. The public viewed Old Spice customers as old people, and the also viewed the company as a dying company. That all changed when Super Bowl XLIV aired on February 7th, 2010 when America was introduced to a revamped Old Spice advertisement “Smell like A Man, Man. That advertisement increased Old Spice sale by 107% but what made that advertisement so special? What I feel about this advertisement is that it is a persuasive and morally acceptable. …show more content…
Being physically attractive, defined abs and muscles, broad shoulders, as well as a rugged, bearded face and even sitting on a horse thus building his reputation as a “Real Man”. Mustafa’s body posture on the horse, the way that he is dressed, his suave demeanor and his masculinity imitate the way that an “alpha male” would look at and even speak to a women. Other Old Spice advertisements include other masculine figures such as Terry Crews, Fabio, and even Neil Patrick Harris. These men are all considered to be role models or in other words men that other men wanted to be like. Mustafa obviously a former football player and featured in the commercial, Crews a bodybuilder, and Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson, the womanizing player on How I Met Your
