Oklahoma City University Scholarship Essay

Helping others has always been a strong passion of mine. In my time, I hope to be able to reach out to as many people as I can and serve them in any way that I can. While attending Oklahoma City University, I plan to study Religion / Youth Ministry so that I may acquire the tools necessary to help youth grow in their everyday lives as well as their faith. After college, I plan to join the Peace Corps and spend time volunteering in a developing country to better the living conditions and education of those less fortunate. Currently, I enjoy teaching middle school aged kids on Sunday mornings as well as volunteering with the other youth and children's programs at my church to obtain a head start on reaching my goals of helping others. Through my church, I have also been given the opportunity to attend a camp called CYME for five years because of leadership shown inside and outside of the church. …show more content…
Along with the activities mentioned, I have also maintained a 4.0 GPA and am the senior class treasurer. I believe the amount and diversity of activities I am involved in show that I am ready and capable to handle the world outside of high school.
If I were awarded with this scholarship, I would be able to use it to further my education to keep on the track of serving others, and ultimately working to make the world a better

Receiving this scholarship would help me in more ways than one. This scholarship would help my family and I pay for the expenses of my books and my tuition, this way I would not be stressed during my studies of how I will be able to pay for all of my schooling. As children, our parents shape our ideas and opinions. When I was a child I thought Texas A&M was the only university my parents would let me attend based on the way they talked about it. I thought that they would not help pay for my college if I went anywhere else. It was not until I was in high school that I realized that Texas A&M was the only university I wanted to attend. I would like to study at Texas A&M to continue my family tradition, for the opportunities it offers after graduation and to be admitted to the dental school with a great education behind me.…

In 2004, six years after graduating High School, I knew I needed to do more with my life than I was, so I joined the Air Force. This is a very basic way to describe it. I realized I was capable of more in my life; I recognized that I couldn’t get there working where I was; I identified that the military had careers that interested me, and I narrowed the jobs down to the Air Force. This is not to say I did it all for only that reason. I also had considered the military before, as my father and most of his brothers had served in the military at some point.…

I feel like I am a good candidate for this scholarship because, as a senior, any and all money earned and received will help me ease the burden of attending college. My goal throughout my whole childhood was to receive a full ride scholarship to the college of my dreams; however, as time has gone on and I have matured I have come to the realization that, that dream is not as achievable as I once believed it to be. I have worked hard, inside and outside of the classroom, making the grades and creating the resume that colleges are looking for, and in response I have been offered tuition waivers. Which ultimately means I am still responsible for paying for my books, room and board, part of the tuition cost, and mandatory fees.…

I believe that I should be awarded this scholarship because I would like to pursue a career as a pediatric surgeon or be in the emergency room as a trauma surgeon. The reasoning for this is that about a year ago, my mom had a heart attack. After that, everything within the medical field sparked an interest in me. I want to make a positive impact on society by helping those in their time of need and this scholarship will give me the courage to…
