"Hide in the brush till I come for you. Can you remember that?" Of Mice and Men Pg15 The above quote is significant to Of Mice and Men as it foreshadows the setting of later events. George has Lennie repeat several times that should trouble occur, he is to hide in the bushes.…
OMM Essay “Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don't belong no place.” Loyalty and devotion both play a very big role in Of Mice and Men due to the amount of friendships in the book.…
The diction and characterizations in this novel are very unique. When George and Lennie, along with a few other characters speak, their diction is very uneducated. Throughout the novel sometimes it can even prove hard to read what these men are saying. I believe Steinbeck portrays them in this way in order to imply some empathy for these men. This diction conjures a feeling of sadness for these men, as if you can feel their struggle and pain as they speak.…
Steinbeck illustrates the theme of companionship and isolation through the relationships between characters in Of Mice and Men. One way character relationships supports the main idea is through desolation and remoteness. " 'Books ain't no good. A guy needs somebody---to be near him.' He whined, 'A guy goes nuts if he ain't got nobody' (Steinbeck 72)."…
Some say Lennie is a monster, who kills things on purpose, others say he's just a man who doesn't do mean things for meanness, but everyone can agree that unless supervised, Lennie can be a menace. Lennie is a gentle giant, compared to a horse, dog, and bear in the book. And with his animalistic qualities, tends to hurt things and not understand the norms associated with his actions. Lennie, in a childish attempt to touch Curley's wife's hair in order to feel how soft it is, breaks her neck and kills her. Lennie didn't do it to actually hurt her.…
They found Maurice Stanley’s decomposing body at the factory grounds. He’d been lynched, the media concluded. He must have deserved it, they whispered under their breaths, or said much louder. After all, a people as wretched as his kind did deserve no better fate…. but did they, really?…
Friendships are symbiotic relationships, where people share their talents and qualities to help each other through life. The novel, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, exhibits many forms of these two-way relationships, the strongest, between the characters George and Lennie, and the other friendships between Crooks and Lennie, and George and Slim. These relationships show how each pair benefit from each other’s companionship, and help each other in the harder times of life, the most important one, being the friendship of George and Lennie. The first and strongest two-way relationship shown in the novel was between Lennie and George, who share each other’s talents and abilities to fulfil each other’s needs. George helps Lennie out in all situations,…
In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck George Milton kills his best friend Lennie Small. Because Lennie did bad things which he would of been killed for by other characters, but George decided to shoot Lennie in the head when he was not looking so he did not suffer. George also knew that if he did not do it himself Curley would have beaten and killed Lennie for killing his wife in much harsher ways than if George killed him. Lennie did not deserve to die because he ultimately had not intention of hurting and killing those he did kill.…

I Bailey Jaggers was at the hospital with my dad, who had been shot, when I met Ponyboy, Sodapop, and Darry Curtis. They were greasers just like me, and they happened to live right up the street from my house. They were there to see two of their friends, Johnny Cade and Dallas Winston, who had been injured in a fire. My dad is doing really bad and I don’t know how to deal with stuff like this. “I have a son of my own,” I tell the brothers, “ his name is Roman and my wife’s name is Kiana.”…

Lennie the character with mental disabilities has trouble keeping himself under control while at the different ranch houses. Lennie uses his “American Dream” of tending the the rabbits as a guideline that George has put in place for him, also he uses it as hope that one day he can have pups and rabbits and do all the things George has told him he will be able to do. Lennie wants to please George but has trouble doing so without the consequences that George has put in place for him(if his behavior isn’t good he won’t get to tend the rabbits). “An’ put some grass to the rabbits...”(pg 61). Lennie constantly thinks about this and is so concentrated on it that he will force himself to do whatever it takes to be allowed to tend the rabbits.…
“ Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” ( Lord Action) This quote gives a clear explanation to power and how power is used in the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The book Of Mice and Men is set in the 1930s down in the south. Things happening during this time are the Great Depression, Adolf Hitler is rising to power in Germany, and Joe Louis and African American boxer was leading the stage in boxing, also during this time segregation was still very big especially in the south where this story takes place.…
