I have put great consideration into many health career professions out there, however, I have been trying to find a health profession that is not only geared towards patient care but more on the business side of health. With my parents owning a business, I know how much it takes and the amount of hard work, running a business requires. Additionally, I love planning and organizing meetings as well as gaining new knowledge in health care field. My aunt, Brandie in Wisconsin got her masters degree in health care administration which is a very similar career path to health administration management, and I have only heard good things from her. I chose health administration management because it is not science based but more business based and with my parent’s background in business, I have learned how to run a business. Being a health administrator, I will have the opportunity to make a difference in my community. Working in the field of healthcare, one is considered a beneficial and valuable member that gives his or her time to help others. Moreover, I wanted to choose a career that is both secure as well as practical, something that I know will make me happy. Health administration management would allow me to work in an industry that is one of the largest growing in the United States. I would ask my aunt Brandie on what a normal or typical day working as a health administrator was like, but she would tell me that there is no such thing as a typical day. New and different tasks would always be needed to get done every day. She would tell me that every day she had at least two meetings with health providers that she needed to attend as well as answering emails that are constantly being sent. The meetings are usually to discuss topics such as money, new equipment or healthcare policy and laws that needed to be discussed. In addition, there are times when she would have to interview candidates for open job positions, as well as overseeing the human resources department. Sometimes, Aunt Brandie would have to work late hours and even answer late emergency phone calls. Duties of these health administrators consist of answering emails, attending meetings and taking care of any situation that may affect the business in any negative way. There are many fields that one may choose from within the career of health administrator management, ranging from nursing home administration to health insurance specialist. With the aging population on the jump, it places an extensive need for anyone who is working in the nursing home administration. A health insurance specialist can earn a salary starting at 37K to hospital management earning a salary from 100K. I would definitely like to work overseeing a hospital or medical clinic.
