In regards to effective care, the UK ranks number one. Credit for this ranking is due in large part to the widespread use of their health information technology. Safe care is another quality benchmark that looks at if a country “avoids injury to patients from the care that helps them.” Countries that have a low ranking in this category are Canada, Norway and New Zealand. This is the result of poor health information technology in these countries. The UK ranks number one in this category while the US is Seventh out of the eleven countries. The US has made significant changes to change this ranking like financial penalties for hospitals that make these errors. This is one many safety measures put into effect to provide better safe care. Coordinated care is a health care systems ability to coordinate efforts on a patient from ensuring the patient receives the right follow up treatment, minimize errors and ultimately avoiding complications. In the US a high percentage, go without care because of cost more often than people do in the other countries. In the US 37% of people, do not get the proper treatment or care because of cost. The second highest country Netherlands is at 22%. Inversely UK (4%) and Sweden (6%) patients went without care. In regards to the timeliness of care Switzerland and UK Rank highest amongst the eleven countries. The US however rounds out the top three for timeliness of care. Efficiency is determined by how well the time and resources used to help a patient are used and if they acquire value over time. Measuring efficiency looks at total health expenditures on health as a percent of gross domestic product. Also looking at health administration costs. The US were last overall with health administrative costs, poor resource use and, duplicative medical testing. Meanwhile the UK and Sweden respectively are the top two in efficiency. Equity is care delivered in the highest quality because of “gender, ethnicity, geographic location, and socioeconomic status.” US again find itself at the bottom for patients for visiting a physician for follow up care due to the cost for the patient.
