For the past year, I have been working full-time at WIC where my responsibilities include providing nutrition education and services to low-income women and their children. Through this position, I work with registered dietitians, utilize written care plans, and practice effective counseling techniques to ensure that our clients begin to make positive dietary changes. Working at Woodward Hills with a registered dietitian gave me experience with therapeutic and mechanically altered diets and the knowledge to ensure patients receive proper nutrition to address their individual health conditions. It was rewarding to assist in teaching a Cooking Matters course where students appreciated the opportunity to learn about the best foods to feed their families to prevent disease and improve their health within the constraints of a severely limited food budget.
