At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing, preparation of their nursing students comes through focus on research, diversifying understandings in relation to the field, and local and global impact. This report will claim an evaluated level of preparation based on the following criteria: coursework and clinical work experience opportunities. Based on a scale of 1 to 5, one being needing improvement and 5 being excellent presentation, each section will be ranked accordingly. Due to this, nurses are needed to use their knowledge to teach preventative care to and care for these patients to decrease their visits and stays in hospitals. In addressing the question of whether or not Carolina’s School of Nursing curriculum prepares its students to adapt to the growing needs, we used the course descriptions to investigate for an answer. In reference to the trend discussed previously, particular course descriptions stood unique to others through their seemly significant relation to the need of current nurses. One of which was of 360 Concepts, Processes, and Skills for Evidence-Based Nursing, which stated “The course focuses on understanding basic nursing concepts. The development of communication, teaching, and psychomotor skills are emphasized in conjunction with nursing process. Research as a basis for practice is recognized” (Carolina Nursing BSN Course Descriptions, 2017). As the curriculum was reviewed, evidence demonstrated that Carolina is in fact offering courses that can be attributed to preparation of their students for current trends, however, the website did vaguely recommend when courses should be taken. In order to certify as a registered nurse, clinical hours (hours of experience that will ensure one is able to execute skills), are needed. As a school of nursing, it was assumed that these hours are offered and required. The program’s website was used to investigate when and how these hours are obtained and offered. The results of this investigation indicated that specific information was not presented to on any main pages and extensive research was required. Eventually, some relevant information was found through a link on the “Curriculum” page to the course description catalog. Here, one finds that there are courses offered through which students obtain a certain amount of clinical work experience credits such as “488 Practicum in Nursing: Health Services Improvement Work Experience” and “489 Practicum in Nursing: Global Health Experience” (Carolina Nursing BSN Course Descriptions, 2017). On the basis of the criterion at hand, the website received a 3 of 5 due to the lack of presentation of significant information regarding necessary clinical hours, therefore reducing its
