RN III to Clinical Nurse Resource Promotion
I graduated from nursing school in 2011 and accepted my first nursing position here at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Saint Joseph Hospital in the Emergency Department that same year. I started my orientation with two other staff nurses and began working independently after eight weeks. I remember that I felt so unsure of myself and was frequently asking others for their input on patient cares. After I had been here for about one year, I recall I found this new confidence in my ability to care for my patients. I had begun to grow an encompassing knowledge of involving the different disciplines and the vast contributions a multidisciplinary approach has on patient care. Increased open communication with the providers, utilizing social workers when needed, consulting with respiratory therapy, working with radiology, involving the care management team early in the patient’s visit for follow up care, speaking with pharmacy about medication choices and use and the list

This item is something that our trauma program was missing. I still work on this process each day to ensure its overall success and continue to review its accuracy in capturing all patients that meet criteria. This also involves a large amount of staff education for the Emergency department as well as the inpatient departments. I am able to provide face to face feedback during a quarterly Trauma Multidisciplinary meeting, Bi-weekly email communications with department directors and super visitors to provide up to date information, reminders to Emergency department charge nurses and staff nurses on each trauma patient that was admitted, attend department staff and charge nurse meetings with information on return statistics, and serve as a resource in the department to answer any questions on the process in real time or via

When it comes to patient care it is assumed things run more efficiently in an organized environment. Health care providers all have the same goal, and that is to provide the best possible outcome for the patient. Although it is important for health care providers to be in agreement, interprofessional practice is one step further in assuring the quality of health care will be efficient. Clinical Context & Experience I completed my final two shifts on 11/24 and 12/1 at Sharp. The unit had a pretty large census both nights, so we were fairly busy both nights. During this shift I had to notify the doctor twice and felt the most relevant journal topic was advocacy. The first night I had three patients which included a 84 year old man who sustained a hip and right shoulder/humerous fracture from a fall at home and a history of HTN, CKD, MI with coronary stent placement, and diabetes, an 86 year old woman admitted for rapid A-fib with history of TIA, HTN, CHF, and rheumatoid arthritis, and finally a 35 year old woman who was being discharged following her treatment for polynephritis. During my final shift, I cared for a 71 year…

I've learned plenty throughout the past eight weeks. Looking back, the nursing process and cultural competence were the two concepts that I took the most away from. Learning the nursing process has taught me the importance of providing patient-centered care. Since then I have began to apply the steps of the nursing process while working as a nursing assistant and it has changed the quality of the care that I provide. I plan to bring what I've learned about the role and responsibilities of a nurse to my future clinical rotations.…

The Nurse Executive Guide Summation When hospitals undergo mergers and acquisitions, senior leaders and administration find themselves focused on the importance of the “proverbial ball.” Technical and financial details are in the forefront and become the main focus for success. However, failure many times is not in the financial loss of the consolidation. It occurs after the fact, when cultural clashing arises. The author of this paper’s literature review showed many examples of how organizations will often take their people for granted and do not realize how much of an impact employee morale can have on the bottom line.…

The Tri Council for nursing -American Nurses Association, American Association of Colleges of Nurses, National League for Nursing and American Organization of Nurse Executives- strongly endorses the IOM’s report and Campaign for Action. The TriCouncil for nursing recognizes the need for additional nurses to take on a central role in healthcare reform through leadership roles to meet the needs of the evolving healthcare system and supports the four key messages present by the IOM. Implementing the IOM’s Campaign for Action would also eliminate the confusion about what education level is required for each nursing position. Entry level nurses will be expected to have a BSN while nurse managers and educators will be required to hold a master’s of science in nursing (MSN), promoting a lifelong learning for nurses and improving overall patient care (Nursing 's future: What 's the message?,…

Two specific goals I retain for tomorrow’s community experience include: Enhancing my communication skills and learning about the job description of an RN Care Coordinator. Related to communication skills, I want to focus my attention on both the verbal and nonverbal communication skills of the female population, connected to health care, as my experience will be directly related to women’s health. Because cervical cancer and endometriosis run in my family, and I was diagnosed with PCOS last year, I do retain some familiarity with women’s health, but not in detail. Upon doing a…
