a.) Describe the establishments you visited (include location/ major intersection), the waiting-line model in use, and your overall experience. State the wait times for each line you were in.

Store 1: I visited the nearest Costco store. The store is located at 71 Colossus Drive, Woodbridge, ON L4L 9J8, In the city of Vaughan. Costco is a well-known for excellent customer service and product pricing. I believe that Costco uses the single-phase system. Customers arrive at one of 20+ checkout lanes and wait for the cashier to scan their product so that they can leave the store as quickly as possible. Furthermore, I believe that this is a single channel because customers must stay in one at the checkout. I would rate my overall experience 10/10 because I love Costco's extensive selection and pricing. The lines are never too busy, the store is clean,

I believe that a company as big as Costco must use the work sampling method to track how long it takes for each employee to process a customer’s order at the checkout. Using this approach, the Store Manager of Data Specialist can monitor many workers at once to get a standard time. Using the sampling method is cheaper because it requires little-specialized training and the costs are much lower than other methods.

On the other hand, I believe that the Service Ontario and local walk-in clinic use the time study method. This method time how long it takes multiple workers to complete a job and then it gets divided by the number of observations to establish a standard time. Since, government employees and healthcare work do repetitive tasks every day, it is best to use a time study.

c.) How did the service providers deal efficiently (or not efficiently) with customers? What was the mood of the people in line as they reacted to the efficiency of the service

The design idea we had was modified several times. Initially the fingers that were constructed for the hand seemed to work and look fine in our Solidworks assembly. We did not want the fingers to be too large as the girl were were designing the hand for is only seven years old. However, after printing them, we quickly realized that they were far too small to be able to exert the force to grasp a water bottle. Furthermore, because they were so small, it was difficult for the 3D printer to print out the finger because the walls were so thin.…

Cabela’s Customer Service & Support Waiting in line at any store seems to be quite the norm for most of us depending on the time of year and even the time of day. We can walk in on one day and there won’t be any lines at the checkouts but the next day you enter the store again and there are more people there and the checkout lines are longer than you expected. When this happens we tend to just wait patiently because we have become accustomed to this. However, when it comes to waiting “inline” on the telephone for help, we all tend to get a little upset.…

Costco utilizes the same distribution strategy internationally as they do in the U.S. The company makes an effort to obtain products locally by developing relationships with local suppliers in order to reduce supply chain costs (Soni, 2016). This tactic also helps Costco provide products that are partial to the local customer base. Products are sold at Costco warehouses, demonstrating a direct involvement in distribution. Globally, the company utilizes a distribution strategy in which the supply chain is kept as short as possible in an effort to reduce costs and keep prices down.…

Supplier Management JIT systems aim to have the best quality at low costs when ordering inventory. To achieve this goal, a company relies on long-term contracts with few suppliers that are able to supply them according to their immediate needs. In today’s competitive market, a company’s economic performance depends much on its relationship with its supply chain.…
