If I were Ed I would I would handle the requests for vacation time with complete thought and consideration, keeping in mind what is best for the company. Since Memorial Day weekend is the busiest weekend of the year and most of the employees think they deserve vacation days and do not want to work I will sit down and construct a plan based on each employees needs and skills. My first thought would be to train my top employees to be backup supervisors. Since this is the busiest weekend and I may be occupied by another problem in the store, I would like to have more than one backup supervisor that can help everyone. I will be clarifying key points as the meeting goes on and making sure everyone is on the same page. Once I finish presenting and explaining the thought and reason behind the scheduling I will begin the bargaining stage. I will be open to questions and suggestions, as well as if anyone has something that came up or did not bring to my attention that would change he scheduling plan. During this time there will be a lot of negotiation going on. I would make sure everyone got holiday pay, and those that will be working will receive double pay. Memorial weekend is such a demanding weekend to have off, so I would have to make an incentive for the employees that work during this holiday. I would be willing to offer as I mentioned before that everyone gets paid, the employees working get double pay, they get to take another day off down the road, or even a cash bonus based on the sales made this weekend. Controlling conflicts between who should and shouldn’t work and having effective negotiations will help the company. Having negotiations with the employees will hopefully decrease the dispute on who should have off, while making sure there are enough employees for the store to run cooperatively and
