Northern Arizona University Shooting Report

Improved Essays
My story covers the topic of the shooting that took place at Northern Arizona University during the early hours of the morning on Friday, October 9. A freshman and pledge of Sigma Chi at the university became involved in a fight with other students around 1:20 a.m. He then proceeded to run to his car and picked up a handgun. He shot four members of the Delta Chi, another fraternity, multiple times, killing one of his victims. Students that attend the university were upset because the university did not announce the incident until over an hour after it took place. Another point made at the end of this news story covered by CNN was that this incident took place on the same day that President Obama visited Oregon and the families that were affected

Introduction In this paper, I have two main objectives which are providing an overview of the academic year 2007-2008 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and also detailing a specific event that occurred during this year. I will begin by explaining some of the events that took place. These include: UNC being gifted $5 million to carry out research on natural disasters, the Morrison dorm being renovated, and gospel vocalist Al Green performing at the Carolina Performing Arts’ season opener. However, in this paper, I will be discussing the kidnapping and murder of UNC student body president Eve Carson and arguing why this event was the most important of the year.…

A few years ago, while watching the news in Chicago, a local news story made a personal connection with me. The report concerned a teenager who had been shot because he had angered a group of his male peers. This act of violence caused me to recapture a memory from my own adolescence because of an instructive parallel in my own life with this boy who had been shot. When I was a teenager some thirty-five years ago in the New York metropolitan area, I wrote a regular column for my high school newspaper. One week, I wrote a colunm in which I made fun of the fraternities in my high school.…

For the first two hours, the Honors College Forum discussed many topics dealing with current events and internal matters. The first discussion was about the Oregon shooting that happened recently. People had genuine concerns if something like that would happen in North-Harris. It was pointed out that the school now has a rule to not allow people to carry weapons even with a concealed handgun license. That brought up the issue of gun laws and for the most part everyone agreed banning guns won’t solve anything or allowing anybody to freely own a gun.…

February 7th, 2016 there was a stabbing in Cazenovia, a student of ethnic diversity was stabbed behind subway around 2am. Racial tensions at the University of Missouri (Mizzou) have recently consumed media headlines. “Some black students say they are greeted with piercing stares when they walk by white-dominated fraternity and sorority houses” (Eligon, 2015). It all started when student Briana Gray returned to her dorm room and a picture of a black woman being lynched had been hung up on the door. Her roommate replied that her friends put it up as a joke. Ms. Gray ended up attacking the girl and her friends, and police broke up the fight.…
