Budgeting is one of the most important tools in nonprofit management. As Jacob Lew states, budgeting is much more than the collection of numbers, rather, it is the expression of values and aspirations. Nonprofits are tasked with the responsibility of making their communities, environments, healthcare systems, and educational systems better. It is the task of nonprofits to identify a mission and pursue every opportunity to better this mission. Many times, nonprofits become mundane and lose sight of their vision. They become apathetic and struggle in remaining healthy due to their overwhelming responsibility. It is at this point that their budgets become only a collection of numbers to be reviewed by their board and signed off on. Their goals and aspirations lose their weightiness and sight of their vision. When a nonprofit lack’s in bringing in the right personnel their leadership becomes bogged down and does not remain sustainable. Nonprofits can use budgeting strategies to help build upon their mission and goals.
