Nonnutritive Sweeteners

In my paper, I will talk about the health impact of using artificial sweeteners. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulated all of the artificial and non-nutritive sweeteners. The use of the following nonnutritive sweeteners: acesulfame-K, aspartame, neotame, Luo Han Guo, saccharin, sucralose and stevia have been approved as safe by the FDA. I will bring out the health benefits of artificial sweeteners which include losing weight. Even though these non-nutritive sweeteners are safe to use in general population, people with a rare genetic disorder called PKU and pregnant women should avoid them. Besides that, I also want to raise an awareness of some potential risks of using artificial sweeteners. In addition, I will provide the guidelines of nonnutritive sweeteners intake.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than one-third of U.S. adults are obese. Therefore, many people aim to reduce their calorie intake by substituting sugar by nonnutritive sweeteners. According to the Calorie Control Council National Consumer Survey in 2010, consumer of low calorie, sugar-free foods and beverage has been increased from 78 millions to 187 millions of adult American from 1986 to 2010. So it is very important to learn about the health impact of using artificial sweeteners which are widely used in a number of foods and

    I think nutritive sweeteners like sugar should be consumed in moderation, but I believe that high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) should be removed from all foods. When I started reading ingredient labels it was astonishing how many foods first or second ingredient was HFCS.
