Nicolaus Copernicus was a renaissance mathematician and astronomer who contributed to the scientific revolution by changing his mind about the Geocentric model he was taught by his professors. The heliocentric model was not accepted very rapidly after copernicus discovered it. These people continued to believe that the the geocentric model was true for a long time after his death. This push for people to not change their minds is likely due to authority forcing conformity. The roman catholic church for example outlawed the heliocentric model for over 125 years (Text 8). The roman catholic church in Europe was a major authority figure for a large group of people and imposed this ban on all of its people which ended up killing both Copernicus and Galileo for opposing them.
