Neon is the tenth element on the periodic table. Its atomic weight is 20.1797. It is used for neon lights mostly but has various other uses as well, such as lasers and cryogenics. Neon is fairly expensive, whether it is neon gas or liquid neon. Neon is clear until is reacted, and then, it emits a bright reddish-orange light. It was discovered by William Ramsey and Morris Travers in 1898.
Neon was discovered in 1898 by William Ramsay and Morris Travers at the University College of London. William Ramsay was a chemist, born on October 2nd, 1852, in Glasgow, Scotland. He is famous for his discovery of the noble gases. In 1904, he was rewarded with a Nobel Prize …show more content…
It has an atomic weight of 20.1797. it also has a melting point of 24.56 and a boiling point of 27.104. its density is 0.9002 grams per liter. Its triple point is 24.556K, and its critical point is 44.4918K. Neon’s heat of fusion is 0.335, while its heat of vaporization is 1.71, and its molar capacity Joules per mole. Neon is sometimes used in vacuum discharge tubes ad neon lamps but it is found in trace amounts. It is the 5th most abundant element in the universe, though it is rare on Earth. Without electricity, neon is clear. But when electrified, it emits a reddish-orange bright glow. When neon becomes cold, it becomes a liquid. Neon won’t combine with any other elements in cryogenics. Neon is one of the elements inside a TV tube. Neon is used for lasers! Doctors even use neon for surgery with lasers. 0.0018 percent of the Earth’s surface is composed of neon. If you could gather all of the neon from every typical home in the United States, you would get about 10 liters of neon gas. This equals out to about 10 gallons! Neon has the smallest liquid range of any other element on the periodic table. However, it is quite pricey. It usually costs about thirty-three dollars per one hundred grams. Neon is not known to be toxic. Neon is the Greek word for “new.” Neon has no stable compounds. On some occasions,, the gas is placed in gas tubes and an electrical current is sent through the gas to make neon signs. Neon forms in stars
